Last weekend J & I went on an impromptu weekend getaway to Catalina Island (Avalon, CA). I packed the bare minimum; plenty of sleeveless tops and my bermuda shorts. All our clothes, sandals and toiletries fit inside J’s Calvin Klein duffel bag and I brought my Marc by Marc Jacobs Luxy Ruth shoulder bag to use for the weekend.
Although my shoulder bag served its purpose during our trip I definitely needed something that I wouldn’t have to worry about falling off my shoulder when I’m taking photos, walking around, hiking etc. It was a bit of a hassle to have the bag on my left shoulder while I was stooping, reaching and bending over to take photos with my dSLR. I found myself having to push it up from time to time as it slipped down when I would lean forward. Quite annoying when you’re trying to capture the perfect shot!
So I realized on our trip, just how much I needed a messenger or cross-body type of bag. I have to admit, I haven’t used nor looked at this type of bag since middle school. In middle school I carried around this rugged looking, green messenger bag I’d found (and decorated/wrote on) at an local Army surplus store. How I wish I’d kept that bag! It would be neat to take photos of all the doodles, patches, buttons and bottle caps I attached to it but, I have no idea what I did with it.
Once we got back from our trip, I went full force into finding a cute, quirky messenger type bag to use when we’re running around or on our mini-trips. I thought about getting a Tokidoki bag but, I didn’t want to wait until the new collections were out (end of Summer?). So, I started looking through the Harajuku Lovers line. I’m not a really big fan of the line as I feel it’s almost too ‘teenybopper-y’ but I saw a pattern called “Colour Me Cute” that really caught my eye. It’s not as ‘busy’ as the other patterns, I liked that it was mostly white and the colour combination, girls were pretty cute.
I decided on and last Thursday ordered the ‘Fan Bag‘ through Karmaloop. I think it’s cute for a casual, knock-around bag.
Last Saturday, I went into Macys with a friend of mine to check out the bag in person. I knew they didn’t have the pattern at my local Macys but I wanted to see it in person to make sure it was a good size, unlike the F&C Jet Setter Jr. in my previous post haha. It was just as I expected, not too big, not too small. I liked the material (poly twill) since it would be easy to care for considering it would be used mainly when we travel and when I go on my photo adventures. I think it’ll be fun to use and will make it easier to be hands-free when we’re out and about. It should arrive at work on Tuesday, will definitely take photos then.
